Slow Repair

My roof has a slight slope towards the back. All the water runs with the slope and goes down a gutter pipe along the back of my house and into a cement-lined hole in the ground. The hole has two underground pipes that carry the water through my back yard and into a sewage drain.

But there’s a problem – the cement is broken in the hole that the water goes into. That means the water is not going into the pipes, but straight into the ground.

Erosion in action.

I wanted to patch it yesterday, but the forecast was calling for rain or chance of rain for the next several days. I imagine a bunch of water running over the wet cement wouldn’t be good for setting it, so instead I put a bunch of sand in the hole. The water that falls in the coming days will settle the sand, and I’ll have a nice underlayment for some new cement.

Playground sand is cheaper than patio fill-sand.

You clever minx! What a great idea there!! Now, so long as the neighborhood felines don’t get the idea you put in a sandbox for them…ahem…just reflecting on each time we mulch part of our yard – our cat’s eyes widen, as I know he’s thinking “fresh litter – yea!”

Agreed – that is very clever! It looks so smooth and even- it’s begging for a sand castle.

You are just Mr. Home Improvement, huh? Way to shame the rest of us. 😉
