Backpacks and Balloons

Yesterday was Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday. I’ve seen these announced at other churches, but never attended them. It was cool. There were a lot of kids there. They received a short blessing from the pastor, then got a balloon. After everyone had returned to their seats, there were balloons bouncing up and down all over the church (and three up on the ceiling). It was so colorful and cheery! There should be balloons in church more often!

Today is the first day of school. It’s a half day for middle school only. Tomorrow is a half day for the lower grades. Wednesday will be the first full day. I’m so excited!

It was at the end of the service.

Happy First Day! I hope that you are feeling much better, and that the day goes supremely well! I love the balloons in church – how joyful it looks!

Done with exclamation points for now!

Have A VERY Blessed School Year!!!

    <3 Aunt Bev 🙂

P.S. We have a Blessings Of Backpacks Every Year and it was 2 weeks ago. We started school on the 12th. LOTS of kids there at Both Services. Our PTL also gives bibles to the 3rd grade students….Not so many of them this year. Our enrollment is down a little I think. I only have PS – 2nd numbers…PS – 36
Kdg – 7 1st – 9 2nd- 5. Preschool is always big because a lot of the community chooses to use it. A lot send their children to Kdg at St. Pauls and Then to Public, TOO. <3 Aunt Bev 🙂

Yay for new beginnings … and backpacks & balloons!

Wishing you a year filled with God’s love, peace, & joy! And some awesome snacks here and there too!

Um…that church looks just like First Lutheran in the front. Such a nostalgic glimpse of the window and red curtain! 😀

For years I thought the Blessings of the Backpacks was only an ELCA thing (‘cuz only those churches were doing it, I guess). I am encouraged when I see our LC-MS congregations embracing this little “tradition” – it reminds our families of Who really holds the year in His hands, for one thing. Glad it helped energize you as well – even if environmentally-unsound balloons were involved. (“Party pooper!”)

Trusting you survived your first (half) day, as I did mine. New students are great, and it’s good to see the former ones again (everyone grew!!). Possible best part? “Only 176 days (+/-) left before next summer break” 🙂
