While I was outside yesterday with the eighth graders, I decided to walk around and pick up trash. I mostly did it because it was the end of the day and I was sleepy, but it also helped make the property look nicer. As I was picking things up, I found a CD! It was a DJ mix CD.
I listened to it on the way home. It wasn’t the kind of beat I was expecting. I thought it would be “nnn tss… nnn tss… nnn tss”, but it was more “buh buh buh buh”
It was 78 minutes long. I only knew four songs – and I didn’t know those as well as I thought. As each one came on, I thought: “Hey, I’ve heard this tune before! It’s kind of catchy.” Since I had the volume up so loudly, I could hear the words of the songs. That led me to say: “Oh my!” They were pretty bad.
Oh, my indeed! I feel like an old person, but kids today are much, much worse than we were. Or maybe I was terrible and just don’t remember.
So Friday was Activity Night here, and an alum was spinning platters, so to speak. I got to listen to some of the lyrics of songs that got the most response (e.g., sing-along, dancing – such as it is for the young adolescent – and screams) from participants. I know I heard something about underwear in a popular one…and another (slow dance) included being kissed on the lips…..hmmm. Maybe so long as there is nothing in there about death and dismemberment I should be relieved?
