Frozen

The last time I bought bread, it was buy one get one free. I barely make it to the end of a loaf before it starts going bad, so I had no idea what to do with two loaves. I decided I might try freezing the second loaf. I have a passionate hatred for refrigerated baked goods, but maybe frozen wouldn’t be the same.

When it came time to use the loaf to make my lunch for school, I forgot to thaw it. Since I didn’t want to go to school without any food, I just used the frozen bread to make my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

It was great! The frozen bread was stiff, and that made it way easier to spread the toppings. There is a little condensation on the bread from the humid air by the time I get it put in the bag, but I can live with it.

Stiff as a board.

Stiff as a board.

Whew! At first I thought this post was going to be about that now-annoying Disney animation all the kiddos have been gaga about for the past century or so – relieved to know it was merely about solid bakery – and I could have told you about the benefits of spreading on frozen bread already – geesh!

    So, apparently, I can now………………………………wait for it…………………………………

    …”let it go”.

Thank you. I’ll be here all week.

‘Ha!’ to Carol! My kids sing Frozen songs on a weekly basis.

Frozen bread behaves differently than refrigerated bread. The refrigerator mummifies it (dries it out), the freezer puts it in stasis. Was your sandwich alright when it was time to eat it?

Also, to complete your caption, “…. light as a feather.”

I seem to remember like liking thawed bread.

And I’ll also ask…..how was the sandwich at lunchtime? I presume it would be soggy-ish.

      …..not liking

It was fine at lunchtime. There was a little bit of jelly soak-through, but the texture of the bread was fine, and it wasn’t cold by then.
