The Morning Garden

I’ve been trying to get up at my regular during-school wake up time this week, but it’s been hard. Even after I get out of bed, I move in slow motion.

Yesterday morning I was so slow that it was fully light before I left home. I decided I’d take a moment to walk the garden. I haven’t been out there much since it’s been so hot outside.

There are many beautiful flowers blooming right now, but one of the most spectacular is my lotus. When I bought it earlier in the summer, I thought the fact that there were four different plants in the pot was really unnecessary. Boy was I wrong. The plants have all bloomed at different times, and I’ve had lotus flowers blooming all summer.

This is the last one for this year.

This is the last one for this year.

I have a volunteer sunflower that sprouted from the birdseed I put out. It’s growing in my walking path, but I let it grow and bloom because I like sunflowers. After a bit of a wait, my volunteer sunflower is finally blooming. I was excited to look at and admire it. As an added bonus, there was a sleeping bee on it! I love sleeping bees.

So cheery.

So cheery.

My tomato plants are bearing ripe tomatoes now. I planted three, but only two grew: a grape tomato plant, and a “Better Boy” plant. I’ve had some tomatoes from the Better Boy. They’re delicious! Yesterday morning, I saw one I won’t be eating. A squirrel picked it and chewed on it. Stupid squirrel!

Such a waste!

Such a waste!

Those flower photos look unreal – almost like paintings! Is there a fair in Baltimore? I think you could enter those.

We’ll be glad to see you, but sorry for the reason. I’ve had so many people express their sympathy for your family. Your dad made big impression on a lot of people. (Also, if you stop by the house before 6, please don’t think we’ve been robbed, it just really is that much of a disaster. Sorry.)

Upon seeing your lotus picture, my first thought was this: That should be entered in the fair! My second thought was this: It would make an awesome print on one of my walls.

Sorry about the tsa fiasco. what a hassle.

God bless your time with your family.

You can’t see me, but I am angrily shaking my fist at TSA for you…for what that is worth. I know you want to be home NOW. God grant everyone involved peace and calm so at your landing you will be more glad than mad. Still listing you all in prayer…

I can talk now, going to see you in a few hours, yay!
