I hosted my church dinner group last night. It was great fun. I enjoy having people over.
I decided to cook beef burgundy. It would be an easy way to cook for a group – beef and gravy over noodles. Mmm… I found a recipe online that used a slow cooker and looked easy, but I did need to get some ingredients. Among the required ingredients was burgundy wine. I went to the wine shop to find it.
The burgundy wine was expensive, but as it turns out, red burgundy wine is made from pinot noir grapes. I could possibly get a regular pinot noir wine. I decided I really wanted to taste the recipe made with burgundy, so I got the one that had a store recommendation card in front of it.
It was $30. I have spent more than that on a bottle of liquor before, but I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much on a single bottle of wine. It tasted good, but I like my red wine to be more full-bodied, oaky, and leathery.
The recipe turned out well though, and my guests liked it. Plus I have leftovers! I froze them so I could take my time eating them.
Holy cow, you must be a supertaster! Oaky? Leathery? It doesn’t just register as ‘wine’? Wow.
You are a generous chef, too. 🙂 I would have subbed ketchup.
I agree with everything Lauren said.

I’ve never spent that much on a bottle of wine either, good for you to keep with the recipe. I always sub something…..to my likings. I bet it was really good! Yes, beef, gravy and noodles! Can’t be beat!
