Orange and Purple

The days are longer now, which is awesome. When I get home, it’s still light outside. Yesterday I felt so good I actually worked in the garden a little. I’d bought a bunch of annuals for my bedding plants, but hadn’t gotten them planted, so I planted a few. I planted marigolds in the stone circle in the back yard.

The plants in the middle have purple flowers. Orange and purple... nice!

Other things are happening in the garden as well. Most notably, the alliums are blooming. I planted them last fall, so this is the first time I’m seeing them. I love them! They’re so weird and fun a beautiful.

This bed is full of flowers that bloom at different times. The alliums are first.

It's hard to resist touching the spiky-looking flower heads. They are softer than they look.

Do the alliums (which in my mind I will say ‘alley-oops’ to try and remember them) start out as a pointy, fat bud? I think we walked by some this week.

    Your garden is lovely. 🙂

Yes, they are fat pointy buds. The buds kind of look like garlic flowers if you’ve ever seen those. The common name for alliums is “flowering onion”.

I LOVE alliums. They remind me of a Dr. Seuss plant.
