Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

A Full Day

I was well enough to spend the whole day at school yesterday! Yay!

I still wasn’t 100% though. I got tired really easily. I’d take something to the dumpster, then have to sit at my desk and rest for a while. Then I’d move some books from one shelf to the next, then sit at my desk and rest for a while. It made for really slow progress. I was hoping to have my classroom ready to go by the end of the day, but I didn’t quite get there.

I didn't do much while resting at my desk.

In the evening, I went to Kaala and Andrea’s house for dinner. It was delightful. Good food and good conversation.

Today we start having before-school teacher meetings.

“Ready enough” – that could be your go-to motto. Honestly, you’ve got desks and chairs and a roof. You could wing that first week and still be out ahead. Are those Trivial Pursuit cards? You’re golden!

Good point! The first weeks I taught at BLS back in ’83 (that’s 1983…) I had nothing in my basement classroom (at the foot of the stairs in Hofmeister Hall for frame of reference) but a teacher’s desk and chair. Nothing on the walls, including blackboards – not to mention desks and chairs for students. I’ve apparently blocked from my memory exactly how and how rapidly that was addressed, but in comparison your room looks GREAT for this time of year, Brad! I’d say another 2-3 weeks and nobody will know you just moved in there. 😉 (Say, have you caught the “If You Give a Teacher a Work Day” meme going around Facebook lately? Seems timely…)

I’m glad you’re feeling better, just keep going slow, everything will work out and be the way it’s suppose to be. You have “the seventh grade teacher” power on your side! Drink lots of water everyday, all day! Even if you’re not thirsty, drink lots of water! It’s free medicine! Flush the poisons out! Sending healthy energies your way!
