Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Settlement Day

Today is Settlement Day for my house. If all goes smoothly, by the end of today I will no longer be a home owner. It’s taken a long time to get to this day. I’m glad it’s finally here.

I’m so thankful to Denis, who stayed in the house even though it was far away from his work and even though the house was mostly empty. I could not have done this without him. He’s good people.

The earlier this week, Denis sent me a picture. He asked me to say what was missing from it:

I didn’t get the right answer until he sent me a second picture:

The “For Sale” sign was gone! A sure sign that today was coming.

I will miss that house. I loved that it was old and full of character. I loved how much I worked on it. I loved the garden and all the thousands of dollars and hours of time I spent there. I will really miss that house.

Awww….. I will miss that house, too. I was only there a couple of times (once?), but I loved the layout and all the woodwork. Your garden was a remarkable oasis in a big city.

Denis, you are the best of good people! Thank you so much for being Brad’s friend! (And our friend, too! 🙂 )

I’m sad for you, Brad. It did seem to give you great joy to be frequently working in and around that house. I’m also a bit sad for the rest of us – along with this sale comes the realization you are not just on a REALLY long Hawaiian vacation and will be home in B’more again soon. 🙁 Our loss.

Trusting God has brought a person or family to the realtors that will take half as good care of the place as you did. Years from now you can stop in (on a mainland vacation, of course), knock on the door, and ask to come in to see the place where you used to live…see how much they have changed it…and regret making the stop in the first place. No, never mind – don’t do that.

Yay for you on the sale!!!! I know you will miss your long time home though. What a great experience to get to live there and do all that you did to renovate and update! Onward!
