Troubling Tray

My toaster oven has had kind of smoky smell to it lately. I kept telling myself I would clean it, but I kept not cleaning it. Yesterday I tried to use it and there was visible smoke coming from it. Ack! No more putting off the cleaning.

I went to the internet for some advice on cleaning my particular brand of toaster oven. The advice started with a message about always emptying the crumb tray after every use. What? It has a crumb tray?

Yes. Yes, it does. And it was gross. I cleaned it, and soaked it, and cleaned it again. I used it after cleaning it, and there was no smell. Problem solved!

My crumb tray drops down and the crumbs go everywhere. I have been putting a piece of foil in the bottom of my toaster oven. It catches the crumbs and it is easy to remove and dump the crumbs and wipe the foil off before putting it back on the crumb tray. Maybe
This will work for you too.
I love seeing all of your plant photos. Many of the plants you shared with me are coming up now.

I am not going to laugh at you, because I also didn’t know that toasters had a crumb tray until my Martha-Stewart-worship days. She talked about cleaning the crumb tray and I thought, “What kind of fancy toaster does this rich lady have?” It turned out that my cheap Wal*Mart toaster had one, too. However, that doesn’t mean that I clean mine regularly. (Slinks off to clean the crumb tray of the toaster……)

Our toaster oven is in a cabinet….. we really didn’t use it much and it was taking up prime real estate on the counter so it got evicted. Hmmma crumb tray?

You sounded like my husband for a moment there: “What – there’s a lint screen I should empty after every load comes out of the dryer?” Why yes…yes there is, dear.

Congrats on the “new” toaster oven and happy – toasting!
