Sears Shopping

I stopped at the mall after church yesterday. I went to Macy’s to look at their clearance area. It’s gotten much smaller recently, and much less marked-down. And definitely less fun. I didn’t find anything.

While I was at the mall, I decided to stop in and look at Sears. The store is closing, and they’ve marked everything down. Clothing is all 40% off. I’m suspicious about the prices though. Many of the price tags have been torn off, and new price stickers have been applied. It makes me think they’ve marked everything up before they mark it down.

Still, I found some shorts that were only $16 after the discount, and some socks that were $6. But I think the most valuable thing I brought home is the bag. It’s a Sears bag. With all the Sears stores that are closing, this is going to be worth something some day.

Awww, I wouldn’t even have thought to keep the bag. It’s like a Montgomery Wards catalog – a treasure!

…or like a Sears catalog from back in the day! Fun fact: freshman year of college when I had to take a speech class the Sears catalog became my best friend. I could do a demonstration speech about how to make a Christmas tree door stop out of it by folding all the pages a certain way…I recall interpretive readings about those warm, soft, fuzzy slippers pictures therein…you get the general idea. Good times.

Sad note: I fear retail post COVID will never be the same……..
