Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

A Full Work Day

Yesterday I dug the new pond. I decided to start with the two holes that were already there and just connect and re-shape them. I started at 7:30am and stopped at 3:30pm. Whew! I still have some smoothing out to do before I put the liner on, but the hard digging work is done.

Today I plan to get the coping stones from the rock place and get the rubber liner from the pond supply place. I may or may not actually begin to install them. The pallet of stones weighs about 3000 pounds, which my truck can’t handle. That means I’ll take half of the pallet at a time. That means I’ll be loading and unloading 3000 pounds of rock by hand today. That means I may need to rest afterward.

Here is a picture of what I did. It looks smaller than actual size because the sun is not casting very many shadows. The pond hole is about 7 feet wide and 12 feet long. Its deepest point is about two and a half feet. At that depth, I was digging mostly clay and stone. I may be taking ibuprofen for a while…

I'm not looking much like an English gentleman gardener at this point.

PSA:Today is my Half Birthday! Yay!! I am 38 years and six months today. Hooray! It’s traditional on your half birthday to have everyone tell you how awesome you are.

Well, Awesome Brad, at least if you die from all the pain, you have a handsome permanent resting place nearby. Happy Half-Birthday!

  2. Kim

Well done, Grand Master. You were so lucky to have the help of Warren the Rabbit to dig your pond, but I am sure that Refield the Pumpkin did his part.

You must plan a happy hour after school during the first week back. I would love to see your garden while having a drink!

  3. Michele

Are you sure you don’t want a pool instead?

    Nice pond hole.

        • Peggy

Carol, I love it — thank you so much — !!!

I’ve been so bummed ever since I got the news that I’ve been kicked out of the neighborhood … 🙁
          (sigh-tear-eat a ton of chocolate-sigh-tear)

Carol mentioned rabbits and that reminds me … how about that rabbit dance last night on “So You Think You Can Dance?” I laughed my head off thinking of Brad and the bunny in the coffin, even though it was a little scary … like Wizard of Oz scary!

  8. Peggy

Wow!! I’m really impressed!! That pond is going to be so amazing!! Can you give me just a titch of your energy??? You just can’t slow down this summer, can you? Are you on drugs?

    Oh BTW: You’re awesome!

  9. Peggy

Useless info for ‘ys all: Today my my-mother-in-law is 80 years old.

    80 on 08-08-08

    • Beth

      That’s amazing. I love crazy numerical happenings…LOVE.

    • Carol

What’s her name? I’ll do an acrostic for her…and I don’t even know her, so who knows what words I’ll come up with and if they’ll match her personality or not. Could be interesting, Peg! (Hope her first name is shorter than DiBasilio, though…)

      • Peggy

Her name is Guissipina Dimassimontonia … but everyone calls her Pina or Non …

        • Carol

Since who would kid about a name like Giussipina EvenlongerthanDiBasilio, I’m going for the shorter ones:

P = pretty doggone old already – good for you!
I = imagine getting one of these done by a total stranger…
          N = no need to thank me…really…
A = a Happy 80th Birthday to you, dear lady!

          …or…

N = no names easy to spell OR to pronounce
O = old is really a state of mind; hope you are feeling young!
N = need to validate your wonderful daughter-in-law, Pegster – she rocks!

Okay…I’m sure she’ll never see these, so I won’t sweat the lameness.

        • Peggy

Carol that is awesome & hilarous!! 🙂

  10. kiwe

    Yea you!

    • kiwe

A very merry Unbirthday to you, To you,
It’s great to drink to someone,
And I guess that you will do,
      A very merry
      Unbirthday to you!

      • Carol

Ah, a gal after me’ own (hic) heart.

–she who keeps a half-full bottle of Ameretto at the ready from atop her refrigerator at home at all times

  11. Annette

I thought perhaps you were digging your way to the Olympics.
