Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Cake?

I had lunch supervision duty yesterday. Shortly after lunch started, a tiered contraption came in. It looked like a bunch of suckers (or lollipops, for my east coast readers). Taking a closer look, they seemed to be covered with frosting. They were made of cake! Jake’s mom sent in cake lollipops for his birthday.

Happy Birthday!

One of the boys said they tasted sort of like brownies.

Max approved of it.

You mean that you weren’t inspired to try cakeballs in 2009 when I blogged about them? http://marino-johnson.org/blog/?p=1102

You should see the amazing way people decorate these things! http://m.bakerella.com/pop-stars/

Brad’s site was all wonky when I tried to get on, so your comment didn’t show. When I just saw it, I was all, “Jinx! Buy me a coke!” – except I see by the timestamp I’m just late.

I don’t remember that post. Could I have missed it? Or do I just chalk that up to my poor memory? Whatever the case, I did not try them. When I eat cake, I always make sure I’m the one cutting the piece so it can be hunormous. I would have to eat five or six of these to equal my normal cake intake.

Oh, yes, those are cake pops. They are all the rage in the DIY foodie crowd. You bake a cake, let it cool, then crumble it up and mix it with frosting, then form that into balls. Poke a stick in them, frost ’em up, there you go. http://www.bakerella.com/category/pops-bites/cake-pops/

Cute, but I think I’d rather just eat the cake.

Interesting. I’ve never seen these. It does seem like they’d be a lot of trouble. And although they are very cute…I don’t think I’d like to hit a stick when eating cake.

So did they offer you one?

They did not offer me one, but the dots on the tier-thingy were made of white chocolate, and they did give me one of those. 🙂

I think they’re easier to eat on the stick, bit my buddy at work just does the balls… and then coats them in chocolate. Super-yum!

Brad, the things you should keep in mind when you’re considering ginormous is that the balls are made by mixing the crumbs with frosting. So the crumbs are compacted, plus you’re getting the frosting and the candy (or better yet, chocolate!). They’re preeeettty filling!
