Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

The Missing Tulip (of doom)

My tulips are all coming up beautifully. The mix of bulbs that I ordered last fall was pinks, yellows, reds, and whites. So far, it’s just the pinks and whites. The orangy-reds are right behind. When I ordered, I got a free gift that I was particularly excited about. It was the Towering Prism Tulip (of doom). It’s supposed to be one of the largest tulips ever. Three foot stems! Can you imagine? I wrote about how the bulb was smaller than I expected. I was curious to see if it lived up to expectations.

Well, it might not surprise you to hear that I don’t remember where I planted it. I’ve looked in the tulip beds in front and in back of my house. The tulips coming up all look the same to me. Where’s the Towering Prism?

I LOVE grape hyacinths. They’re the purple flowers in the picture. I’m considering replacing my lawn with them. It will look terrible all year long, but for three weeks out of the year, it would be breathtaking!

Is this Holland? No, its Brads house!

Don’t let Ned outside, the Tulip of Doom is really a Giant Venus FlyTrap lying in wait…

I’m glad you said what the grape thingies are. One of my kids brought some in and I had no idea what they were – I thought they might be bluebells or something. You are the fount of all plant wisdom, The Gardener.

Very nice! (could you have forgotten to plant the special bulb altogether? Could you have eaten it by mistake?)

How about this? You make a roll of background paper using the picture above, (and any other pictures you think would be good), & I’ll roll it out in front of my house (you know like aquarium background paper).
I know it’s not as good as the real thing, but from the street who’s gonna know.

I don’t know how you do things out East, but the most likely cause of something like this back in these parts is failing to make your saving throw vs. Botrytis blight. This would be a mot point if it was any other tulip, but a Prism Tulip (of doom) just might survive the 3d6 damage you take even if you make your saving throw.

      Wha?

        My thoughts exactly.

      What level Dungeonmaster are you?

    • Brad

Ha! Very good, using a real tulip disease!

If you were talking about the Mulberry Hydra, that would be another matter entirely. 3d6 damage might take it’s head, but two would grow back in it’s place. Gasoline of Immolation is my preferred weapon against such beasts.

  5. Satisfied grape hyacinth lawn covering owner

Wanna see what a front lawn taken over by grape hyacinths might look like? The address is: 7910 32nd Street in Rosedale. This is what happens when you weed the front garden and toss the remnants behind you before bagging, I think… Please also bring your lawnmower; ours won’t turn over yet. Thank you kindly.
