Self Control

Back when I was first proposing my new hairstyle, Erin suggested that I use something called “Aveda Self-Control hair styling stick”. I don’t even know where you’d find such a thing if it’s not to be found in a grocery store or Target. Well, as it turns out, Aveda is a brand that has it’s very own stores. And as it turns out, there’s an Aveda store in the Towson Mall.

It was really interesting to be in the store itself. Everything was tastefully sparse inside. There was soft lighting on all the products that made them look so stylish. I had a little trouble finding the Self-Control hair product, because it looks like deodorant. I was most impressed that while I was in the store, the woman behind the counter asked me if I’d like some tea. Ha. I had just eaten, so I declined.

So I’ve been using this new hair product for a couple of days. It’s really nice because it does keep my hair standing up, but it’s not stiff-feeling. It’s actually very soft. It’s a little strange to apply, because you run the deodorant-looking stuff over your hand, then rub your hands together, then rub it in your hair. I was a little caught off guard by the fragrance. It’s nice, but it’s strong enough that I can smell my hair for the first half of the day. I’m not used to being able to smell my hair. If I had to choose a hair smell though, this one would be on the list, so it’s okay.

Bringing style and panache to Brad's head since 2007.

Ha! Self-control. Are you finding it easier to resist stuff? Like ….spending money? or eating junk food?

  2. Deanne

Tea after eating is good. You should eat before you go to the Aveda store the next time so that you can try some tea after food. I think you’ll find it, well, comforting (http://www.aveda.com/templates/products2/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10699&PRODUCT_ID=PROD7943)

I followed your link. Licorice?!? Yuck!!! I’m GLAD I didn’t take any of that tea.

Be careful getting ready for work in the dark or when you’re really tired. You might end up with hair that doesn’t sweat and pretty smelling armpits with armpit hair that is stylish!

    • Lauren

Ha! I wish I’d said that.

    • Michele

HA! Then Brad could walk around in a muscle shirt or tank top showing off his awesome-looking, totally styling armpit hair!

VERY HISTORICAL … I mean HYSTERICAL Karla!

(try it Brad, & post a picture will ‘ya)

  4. Jill

Me too. That is totally something I’d do.

Aveda is good product. However, for hair control/style- I am a huge fan of BED HEAD or WAX.

Seeinz’ how I don’t have to traipse to any other campus tomorrow after I teach in the a.m., I bet I could find time to come in to J-1 and give a totally objective hair scent evaluation to share here for the benefit of your Nebraska readers. Do you think any 7th or 8th graders would think it peculiar if I just ran into your room, inhaled a hunk of your hair and left?!

[…yea, me too. Never mind then. Despite the occasional frustrations I still love what I do and fear I would not take well to sudden unemployment. Nebraska, you’re on your own again. Sorry.]

Sorry Brad, you can delete. I just lost my comment.

      • Karla

Okay, I’ve done two comments that aren’t showing up. What’s going on here. Brad, are they waiting for moderation or something on your end?

        • Lloyd

Sometimes that happens to me here too. It’s just the price we pay for something or other.

          • Karla

It just happened to me a third time! Is that was I get for eating too much leftover Halloween candy?

  8. Karla

Okay, I’m trying this for the 4th time…

I know that Theressa lurks around here from time to time. Did you guys see that she’s going to be on a postage stamp? Way to go, Bear! That’s sooo cool! I’m very impressed (and feel a little like an under achiever). 😉

    • Karla

      Holy crap, it finally worked!

  9. Brad

Sorry about all the comment problems. Your comments were not in moderation… unless you’re the one who keeps trying to sell me Viagra, Celebrex, and Ambien.

I need to update my posting software, but it’s taking me a while, because I keep forgetting. And when I remember, I feel all intimidated because it seems to be such a complicated project.
