Home and Garden Tour 2008

Yesterday was the neighborhood Home and Garden Tour. It was different this year because it was run by the Neighborhoods of Greater Lauraville, Inc. NOGLI is an association of neighborhood associations. My neighborhood, Hamilton Hills, is a member of NOGLI.

Because there were more neighborhoods involved this year, there was a bigger geographical area, more PR, and a “block party” sponsored by some local businesses. There were three homes from Hamilton Hills. Mine wasn’t one of them. I chose not to feature my house so that I could be on call as a volunteer. I spent the first half at the home of Thomas, who has chickens in his garden (sorry, I didn’t get a picture). I spent the second half of the day at Bonnie’s house. She’s done a ton of renovations to her home, and she’s an artist, so she has cool funky things in her house. My favorite was her shower walls. She re-tiled them herself.

The hand-painted tiles were done by Bonnie herself.

Her garden is really nice, too. While I was there, a bird kept coming to her feeder that we were having trouble identifying. I wanted to say it was a female cardinal, but there was no male around, and it’s beak seemed to be too big and too orange. Getting a picture was difficult because it kept flying away. Here is my best shot:

Another mystery bird.

    It’s a finch.

I love her shower! Did you get more pictures of her house?

A home and garden tour, and all we get is a shower and a bird? C’mon. That’s just not enough.

WOW! You have a famous illustrator right in your neighborhood? Cool! I still have the books I wrote as a child, “Pigs with Wigs” & “A Dog, Not a Hog” … maybe you could hook us up. Cha-ching!

I totally missed that she’s an illustrator. I’ll have to see if we have any of her books at the center!

      Yeah,
Hook a lower grade teacher up.

And speaking of childhood memories, I recently found this tape of me trying out for the chorus in elementary school.

Thanks to American Idol, I finally see where I messed up.
Stupid clearing my throat at 1:12 sec. in. But you would think they could have overlooked that, I was only 8.

I’m surprised that none of your friends mentioned that it looked like a “grave” for your pests!!
