Latch Hunter

I was feeling a little anxiety about the beginning of classes, so I went to school yesterday. As it turns out, I didn’t really do very much. But at least I felt better.

As usual, I started by checking email. There was a message about a faculty work day we’re having next week. In place of meetings on Tuesday, we’ll work on some campus improvement projects of our choice. Some people will clean stuff out, some people might paint…

I’m going to work on the stalls and divider walls in the boys bathrooms. The little privacy screens between the urinals are down, and when that happens, the boys all go into the toilet stalls and pee on the seats. I want to re-hang the divider walls so they’ll use the urinals again. I also want to replace the latches on the stall doors. They are all broken or missing. It seems like it might be nice to be able to latch the stall door when you’re using it.

I spent about an hour and a half trying to find the latch replacements locally. I would search the internet, then call someone. They would put me on hold while they checked inventory, then tell me they didn’t have it, but so-and-so might… Internet search for the phone number of so-and-so and repeat the process.

No luck.

I ended up ordering the latches from a place called Schoolfix.com. They have everything you might want for the maintenance of a school. It’s actually a pretty cool site. The best surprise of all? Toilet stall hardware has free shipping! Awesome! Will they come by Tuesday? Doubtful, but I think they’ll at least be here before school starts.

So shiny.

Well, I just spent a heap of time on that site. It is cool! I’m so impressed that you’re fixing the bathrooms up. Are you prepared to have your heart break when the boys break something? I didn’t see a ‘heart’ category at SchoolFix.

Great idea!! And amongst your gachillon other skills, you are now a mighty hunter! But have you thought of maybe just building a nice big pond in the boys bathroom … I bet they’d go in that.

I wonder if anyone has thought to fix up the locker room boys bathroom?

Thank you for THAT visual, Peg – ewww! (Actually, I laughed, ‘cuz I could picture particular individuals taking advantage of their new apparatus…)

[BTW, got your message – no problem-o – totally understandable. “We good”, as “my people” would say.]

I meant to say earlier that I’m partial to the turning kind of locks, since you can unlock them from the outside with a quarter. (You probably don’t have any preschoolers locking themselves in, though.)

No, but sometimes the boys will lock the door, then climb out underneath so the stall will be locked with no one in it. Apparently, it’s very funny.

      • Beth

        Apparently.
