Asian Pears

I went to the grocery store yesterday. It was a “stock up” trip. I haven’t done one of those in a long time. I was mostly looking for some lunch ingredients. I’ve decided to go with cheese and crackers this week. I’ve already done the frozen dinner thing and the sandwich thing. I’m tired of them. I was unfortunately not able to find some summer sausage, so it will be a meat-free lunch. But I got two delicious cheeses and those awesome butterfly-shaped butter crackers that Pepperidge Farm makes.

While I was at the store, I saw asian pears for sale, and I couldn’t believe the price. They were $3.99 per pound. Usually they’re $3.99 each! I got a pile of them to eat with my cheese and crackers. Asian pears laugh at my power to pick mealy apples. They are always crisp and juicy. And the flavor is so delectable. They are easily my favorite raw fruit.

The fruit of the gods.

I may just have to run to the grocery store right now to get some asian pears. Where do you shop?

    • Brad says:

I got these at Safeway. The one near me has been getting more exotic offerings lately. It think it’s because of all the artsy people who live in my neighborhood. They tend to be tree-huggers. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

  2. Lauren says:

Y’know, those Asian pears totally mess up the ‘female body-shape’ thing.
    “Are you apple-shaped or pear-shaped?”
    “I’m asian-pear shaped.”
    “That’s not helpful.”

  3. Beth says:

“Fruit of the gods”? So, you’re taking on a new job?

  4. Peggy says:

Ha–I have 2 small bite size pieces of pears for lunch too—they’re surrounded by sugar loaded jello & Cool Whip!

  5. Carol says:

What cheeses did you get? Gouda is good-a but feta is betta……sorry.

Say, ya’ suppose the tanking economy has caused not only gasoline prices but Asian pear prices to plummet? “Pears for everyone!” should be your cry on your next grocery store visit. That’s how I feel now when I fill the car – “Next round’s on me, boys!” [Who'd've ever thought gas under $2.50 would generate a 'woo hoo' moment?!]
