Yesterday was the big wrestling tournament of our season. All but two of our wrestlers were there. It was a lot of fun. Our boys had a blast and they wrestled hard. It was an awesome way to spend a Saturday.
Of course I couldn’t take any pictures during our matches because I was busy, but here’s a picture of our kids watching some other kids. Kim took a lot of during-the-match pictures.
There were several times where we had more than one wrestler competing at one time, leaving Dave and I to take separate mats. It was scary to be the coach in charge. Dave’s coaching skilz are excellent. He is especially good at the “post match talk”. I did my best and hoped it was good enough. But the most nerve-wracking thing was deciding whether a period should start neutral, up, or down. I’m still sick about making a bad call during one of the last matches. Sorry, Patrick.
But we’re busting with pride for our medalists. We had four of them.
FOUR MEDALISTS!!?? That sounds like an after-the-fact pep rally and at least one day off school to me! I wager our 8th grade advisories – who have undertaken the arduous task of being the athletic supporters (ahem) for the entire campus for all sports every season (!) – will have some sort of acknowledgment for this, too. Way to go, Saints grapplers! Great job, Coach Royuk!
Now, whatever shall you do with your afternoons from here on out? Guess this means no more missed faculty meetings for the remainder of the year, eh?
He he.
Oh, my dear, dear Carol, wrestling is far from over! We have Gilman on Monday, Friends and Boys Latin later in the month…wrestle ON!
*correction: 5 medalists (not pictured Michael C.)
And I knew you would be worried about Patrick’s match, Brad. No worries, it was Patrick’s match to win or lose. Now he understands a bit more strategy about triple over time. And the ref came up to Patrick to say he thougth HE blew a it by not giving Patrick a point for the other kid stalling. No worries, really!
And a moment of maternal pride, the wrestlers on the left and on the right are my favorite. Patrick on the left, Sean on the right.
…so what you’re saying is Brad won’t be sitting through meetings with us for a while yet then?
Yes, and if I were Brad, I would extend wrestling to the end of the year to avoid sitting in after school meetings.
Congratulations to the Baltimore Lutheran Wrestlers! Way to go, Coach Royuk. π How long is the wrestling season? Through February and then done, or into March?
Congratulations Wrestlers, Coaches & Moms!!! Fantastic!! Applause to you all!!! MS wrestling has become the BEST, most fun, most anticipated sport of BLS–thanks to the AWESOME, inspiring Coach team & determined, hard working, never quiting wrestlers!!! We’re so proud of you all!! π
So what were the medals?? Can we have a list?
