To the Dentist

For about a week I’ve had a sore gum in the lower left side of my mouth underneath a crown. I didn’t think much of it at first; I’ve had sore gums before. But this just hung on. I wondered if there was something stuck in my teeth, so I flossed. My gum bled like crazy. I decided not to do that any more.

On Sunday, my gum really puffed up. It looked like it was going to blow or something. I was a little freaked out. I went to bed hoping I wouldn’t die before morning. I didn’t die. In the morning, I called the dentist’s office. They were closed for Memorial Day. Dang. I swished with mouthwash a lot on Monday hoping my gum wouldn’t get worse. It didn’t.

Yesterday I finally got in to the dentist. They had some time during my free period. First they took an x-ray. It wasn’t an abcess. Whew! The dentist said it was probably something that irritated my gum and now it was infected. He numbed me and started scraping and reaming and doing many other things that didn’t hurt at all but sounded awful. When he was done, he gave me some antibiotic tooth-brushing gel, instructions to swish with salt water, and a prescription for antibiotic pills. He told me he had cut away part of my gum *jibblie*, but that it would grow back.

This morning it finally doesn’t hurt. At all. I think I’ll be okay. Unless my prescription kills me. It’s for amoxicillin. It’s my first try with a penicillin product since I got tested at the allergist. Here’s hoping all goes well!

I always cross my legs at the ankles when in a dentist chair.

While I’m thrilled that you’re not dead, I just have to say – he cut away your gum?!?!?!?! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

(As freaky as that is, I want to see a picture.)

Just let me say that Brad is a great big copy cat. I had my gum cut away just this past Friday (in fact in the past I’ve had so much gum cut away that I needed stitches & I’ve had my jaw bone drilled down as well), and right before his stomach issue, I had a stomach issue, and I always sit with my ankles crossed. In fact, every medical concern Brad has ever had…I had first.

And yes the gum does grow back, it’s what it grows back as that’s interesting.

Yayyyy for not being dead! (and no absess. I’ve been through that.)

When they leave me alone too long in Dentist (and Doctor) offices I start playing with their stuff.

Arron had tooth problems this past weekend too! He had a trip to urgent care Friday night because he was in so much pain, and then a trip to the urgent dentist on Saturday (we had no idea something like that existed!). Turns out a root canal is bad and needs to be redone by a specialist. He’s also on antibiotics and is finally feeling better.

On some of my teeth, I have exposed nerves and this is due to my gums receding caused by brushing too hard. They tell me that won’t get better. So why doesn’t gum that has receded come back and if you cut it away it will? That doesn’t make sense.

Maybe you should try cutting some of yours away and see if things improve.

Oh I cross my legs as well. I think I do this to keep myself from kicking violently. I am somewhat of a anti-dentite.

      An anti-dentite. HA!
