Family Gatherings

Yesterday was a fun celebration of Grandma Royuk’s life.

The funeral was nice. I especially liked the pastor’s message. It was a very clear explanation of Christianity. At the internment, the pastor did something I had never seen before: he poured sand on the casket in the shape of a cross.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't salt. But I didn't taste it.

After the funeral was the luncheon. It was a traditional potluck, and it was awesome. I couldn’t believe how many kinds of jello there were. I tried them all.

This was only one of four tables.

After the luncheon, we went to Aunt Bev’s house. We had even more food and we sat and talked and laughed. We all had Mogen David wine and Snickers bars, because they were Grandma’s favorite.

These go together very well. Good choice, Grandma.

We stayed until dusk. I went back to Seward with my parents and stayed with Lloyd and Lauren. I slept really well again. And woke up late. It’s 10:14am Eastern Time. Sorry for the late posting.

I like that cart in the back loaded with potato chips on stand-by. The people in charge of food really knew what they were doing.

I’m glad your family got to be together, and I’m glad we get to see you, and I’m glad that Lloyd got donuts because we had company.

I’m also glad you got to be with your family…and friends this weekend!! Grandma Royuk surely was smiling down on you all! (I wonder if she’s run into any Ruppert’s yet?)

And I really like that sand cross…could you remember to have someone do that for me?

Garrison Keillor would be proud of this church’s expertise in the Jell-o pot luck offerings department. In fact, this story might become part of a PHC episode one week, Brad. Stay tuned!

The sand cross is really cool – did Grandma like the beach, too, or was sand just cleaner to handle than “dust” or “ashes”?

Seriously, I am glad you made the time to join your clan for this celebration. I think I would have liked Grandma Royuk – Mogen David and chocolate candy bars, eh? My kinda gal alrightee…

So sorry about your Gram, Brad. I heard about it at St Paul, because they were thinking of pairing my daughter up with your niece, but Brent was picking her up for the funeral. It sounds like you gave her a nice tribute! The class of 1989 was sending up good vibes to you & yours!
