Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Osmanthus Time

It is a cruel thing that right when my osmanthus heterophyllus is blooming, I’m too busy to spend any time outside in the garden. The common name of the plant is “false holly”. It does have leaves that look like holly leaves. The flowers are small, but abundant. And they smell awesome. Last year when I posted about this plant, I described the scent of the flowers as “honeysuckle”. But I think it’s more accurate to say “lily of the valley”

The scent seems to be more intense this year. I am frequently catching the scent of the flowers even while standing on my porch. I keep wondering why I’m smelling women’s perfume. Then I remember.

Tiny, but powerful.

Are you sure it’s not actually a woman’s perfume, and she’s just left jell-o on your porch?

Yeah, those look kind of like holly leaves, but they’re missing the terrible sharp pointy bits around the edges – the bits that stab your feet when you walk in the yard on old, fallen holly leaves. Yours is much nicer.

Ha! I have a holly bush nearby. It’s suprising how much those old holly leaves hurt. It’s usually my hands that are getting stuck while I’m weeding or digging. You’d think the stickers would get dull as they age. I think they get sharper!

Now I have The Holly and the Ivy stuck in my head.

Feel free to sing along with me….

Seriously, holly vs. ivy – who would win?

        Ha! You’re on fire today!

I think you left out a “hm” in your bridge…or maybe it as a “hmm”…or maybe something is stuck in your bridge? Anywho, I’d give it an 85 – got a nice beat but ya’ can’t dance to it.
