Field Trip

Since I had a day of nothing on Thursday, I decided to go out and do something yesterday: I went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History!

I’ve been wanting to go there for a while now. Every time I go to a Smithsonian museum, it’s always the Air and Space Museum. Everybody always wants to go to the Air and Space Museum, so I think I’ve been there six times. But since it was up to me yesterday, I went to Natural History. Yay!

There was a big dinosaur display. As it turns out, I don’t think dinosaurs are very interesting. I rushed through that section.
Danger!

The mineral and gem section was easily my favorite area. I spent over half my time there. I saw the Hope Diamond. It’s said to be cursed!
Definitely very sparkly.

I touched a real, live meteorite!
It was cold.

What was really cool about this trip is how little it cost. The parking meter was $2 per hour. I paid for two hours. That would have been it, except I ate. I had a hot dog and drink for $8. That’s a total of $12. Still pretty cheap! Except afterward I went to a water garden center and got a tropical waterlily for $42. But I found a dollar in the parking lot! So really I only spent $53 dollars, not $54. Look at me being thrifty!

Maybe I should stay home more often.

Excallent! That necklace alone was worth the trip. Too bad you couldn’t sneak in after hours and hang it around the neck of that dinosaur.

Questions: 1) Was the hot dog worth it? 2) Did you have to sneak your photos?

      1) It was kosher, so I guess that made up for the high price.
      2) I did not, except for looking like a crazy person for taking a picture of my own hand.

Good thing that hot dog was kosher. I’d hate to think of the consequences if it wasn’t….

Did you notice that I can’t spell anymore?

I remember the 1st time I went to the Natural History Museum. I was in 1st grade. We were told we were going to see the largest diamond in the world! My 1st grade mind thought it would be like the size of the whole room. I couldn’t wait! Well, what a disappointment that turned out to be. And blue? At least the whale didn’t disappoint me.

What color is the new water lily? Is it blooming?

Have you noticed any cursing in your vocabulary since viewing the Hope Diamond? (No? See – I knew it was all superstition!)

Much of the dino models on display in various museums these days is based on part fossils and a large part conjecture to connect the existant bones into a full animal and scare small children. I can easily understand your not being impressed or interested by fakery. Very discerning of you actually.

…but a $42 water lily???????????? You coulda’ bought more than five (5) kosher dogs for that money – what were you thinking??!!

Oh, but Brad didn’t own it… if he had, I’m sure something terrible would have happened…
