Three Days and Counting

I have wanted to paint my bedroom for a while. I have been waiting because I wanted to cover the ceiling with drywall first. But I kept not doing the drywall, so my bedroom paint stayed the same.

In the interest of not letting my ceiling hold me hostage, I decided to just paint and not worry about the ceiling. I started Tuesday. And it is taking FOREVER. I’ve had to paint the walls twice. And the trim… Ugh, the trim… It is taking two or even three coats. After the first day, it wasn’t fun any more. I would get up in the morning, paint for four or five hours, then rest, then paint some more, then drag myself to bed. Why is it so hard? I don’t know if I’ve changed how I paint or if paint has changed. I suspect the latter. I used to be able to cover any color with any other color in one coat. This paint streaks so easily. And if I put it on thicker, it beads and runs. Dang it, this was supposed to be fun.

And now this morning, I begin Day Four.

After the first coat.

I am so sorry. Painting should bring you joy, not sorrow. I think it’s because you’re doing the trim. I’ve never painted trim, but it sounds simply awful.

Could you pretend that painting is some kind of video game and each new coat unlocks another secret from your ancestors?

Great suggestio0n for any challenging task, I think. As always, I am not worthy…

I agree! I have run into more problems with my current painting than ever before. Sigh. I like Lauren’s idea alot to help make your painting easier….hmmmm, what could I pretend?

I hope you show us a shot of the completed room.

Had you painted these walls ever since you’ve lived there? They might be dehydrated/thirsty walls and just need to keep drinking…drinking…drinking… eventually, they’ll be sated, if your painting arm doesn’t poop out first. Have you thought about wall paper, stencilling, or just living in a cardboard box? Much less maintenance there [outside of the need to replace your entire house after every rain storm.]
