Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Need, Want, Got

I broke the foil on my electric shaver yesterday. After shaving, I always pull off the foil and knock out the hair dust. Yesterday as I pulled of the foil, it collapsed.

I’ve had this shaver for many years now. There is no post on Bradaptation about me buying it. Does that mean I was embarrassed to say that I spent $180 on a shaver, or does that mean my purchase occurred before 2006? I don’t know. I have considered buying a new shaver, but this one seems to continue to work fine. I just have to buy new blades and foil every once in a while.

I was just thinking about the stages of buying I’ve gone through. At first, I only bought things I needed for the cheapest price possible, because that was what I could afford. Then I had enough money to get things I wanted for the cheapest price. Then I started buying things I needed that were fancier and more expensive. Then things I wanted that were fancier.

Now I just have a bunch of stuff I’m trying to get rid of! And when something I actually use regularly starts getting raggedy, I say to myself: “Do I really need to buy a new one? This one seems to work fine, even though it’s a little raggedy.” So I guess I’ll keep using this electric shaver for a while. But I do need to get a new foil.

Squashed.

Interesting analysis of your personal growth as a consumer! In another decade or so I wgaer you may be where we are now: “Who brought all this c*** into our home, and how do we get it outta here?!” Simplify, siplify, simplify!

I’ve never seen a foil like that up close. The zig-zag part in the middle is fascinating. What’s that for?

Your summing up of the needing/wanting/spending advancement is spot-on. We are standing on piles of worthless junk around here. I need to watch some episodes of Hoarders to get going on getting rid of it.

The zig-zag thing in the middle has a blade behind it. I think it’s supposed to catch wild hairs and cut them off, then the foil part can catch the stubble and shave it smoothly down to the skin.

I’m pretty sure you’re in stage 6: RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH.

      Ha!

Or stage 8: Foil me once, shame on you, foil me twice….

      (Nothing. I got nothing.)
