Yesterday was my dad’s birthday AND Father’s Day. We had an awesome day of fun.
We started the day by going to church. My church’s power was out! We worshiped in the dim glow of stained glass windows, and we sang by the sound of a piano. It was fun. After church, we went to Applebee’s for a celebration dinner. Thank you to my student Helen, who gave me a gift card. I really enjoyed it! My dad got a free birthday dessert. He shared it with Tara and Tim.
From there, we went to the mall to look at Steelers paraphernalia, because that was Harold’s wish for Father’s Day. (Did you know that’s how you spell “paraphernalia”? It has a second “r” in it. Para-PHER-nalia? Is that how you’re supposed to say it? I have always pronounced it “para-FA-nalia”. Anyway, after the mall we went to IKEA, because that was my mom’s wish for Father’s Day.
It was getting late in the afternoon, but my dad was wondering about all the hullabaloo that was happening in the Inner Harbor. This past weekend, Baltimore has been celebrating its role in the war of 1812 by having all kinds of food and fun and tall ships. We went to check it out. It was worth it. The ships were cool and the people-watching was fun.
When we got home, we lit a fire and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. It was my dad’s wish for Father’s Day.
We went in and had card-opening ceremonies. Afterward, Tim and I tried on novelty glasses that we had acquired separately, but wanted to model together. It is my new favorite picture.
Holy cow – that picture is hilarious! You guys look like you should be hosting some weird and wonderful science show. The garden picture is also great – it looks nicer than any park.
That ship is a marvel of engineering. You’re not kidding about the ropes – how on earth could you keep track of them all. Plus, what did they do if they were sailing during a dark night and they needed to make course correction? Did they just …. not?
“That was my Mom’s wish for Father’s Day” made me grin ‘cuz I’m sure you would only set foot in an IKEA kicking and screaming, eh? HA! And did you get any lingonberries or Swedish meatballs because that was your wish for Father’s Day?
What a fine collection of fun photos (say that five times fast)! Glad the birfathersday celebration was a good one – you sure packed in a lot of “stuff”! (And how was parking at the harbor when you went? The fear of either paying a king’s ransom or driving around for hours has prevented me from wanting to trek down there. Besides, the Blue Angels dipped and banked over our house all weekend … for free.)
HAHAHA!!! The picture of you & Tim is HILARIOUS!! It looks like you have a short, skinny, mutant right arm too. Tim is too cute & funny!!
And what a wonderful flurry of fun you did indeed have yesterday!! Was there enough room in the van for all your purchases?
