Back in the Garden

The flower pots by my front steps have been empty since the beginning of summer. I had some violas in the pots, but they all melted with the heat. I think empty pots should be filled with flowers for two reasons: One – flowers are pretty and should be planted wherever they can be. Two – the empty pots could give the impression that my house is empty or neglected.

Shopping for plants was fun. I went to several different places. Some places didn’t have many annuals available. It’s not really the season for planting annuals. But some places had them on sale! Woo hoo! I got a bunch of impatiens, because the pots only get a couple of hours of sun in the afternoon, and impatiens can take the shade. I also got a coleus, just for the heck of it.

BEFORE:
Dry and neglected.

AFTER:
Colorful and cheery!

In other garden news, I’m pretty sure the fish that guy gave me in the middle of the night have died. Two are outright missing, and one was floating on the surface. I’m not sure what happened. If I had to guess, I’d say the move was too great of a shock to them. It’s not such a bad thing in the end. They died free range fish. And my pond is a little less crowded.

Hey, where’d my comment go? I’ll try again:

I think those fish aren’t dead – they’re spy fish that gathered vital information and took it back to base. Watch your back.

I love the impatiens! And not just because I can identify them!

I like the Coleus. I want to have a awesome UV setup and take a bunch of Coleus clippings so that I can fill my beds with Coleus (without paying 10 bucks a plant).

      UV?

Oh I think dry & neglected pots have a certain kind of charm. Right? Right?

As usually, very pretty!! It has inspired me to throw out my front porch plant bucket of brown stems.

oops. plant bucket of brown stems.

…and even before reading this posting you must have been inspiring people, as yesterday I cleaned up the house plants in our guest/craft room: cut or removed dead leaves, stems, and vines…cleaned off the cloth on which they all sit…rearranged them to get best lighting without intertwining themselves…did not give them more potting soil/fertilizer, which they need desperately, because it was too *** hot to go out to buy any and our shed didn’t seem to have any right now (“Why didn’t you replace this when you used up the last bag, you dolt?”, she types to herself.). In other words, I didn’t finish this job but there are numerous other started projects lurking around here; I’ll get to it eventually/they’ll all die and it will no longer be an issue.
