Shovel Weeds

I’ve been doing a little bit in my garden each time I visit my house. Sometimes it’s just pulling a few weeds, sometimes pruning something, sometimes picking up trash. Yesterday I had a specific goal in mind: I would be weeding with my shovel. I needed to dig out all the weed trees and pokeweed. Some of them had grown as tall as me!

The problem with pokeweeds is that they grow big taproots, and if the root stays in the ground, it will grow a new plant. The other problem with pokeweed is that the biggest plants always seem to grow in inaccessible places in my garden. A few were growing along the fence line, one was growing up through the middle of my rose bush, and three were mixed in with my gate garden.

But I got them all, by golly. Only one taproot broke. I poured a good amount of Roundup on it. I hope it dies.

I also cut out the fountain grass. It was time for it to go.

Thank you for pointing out which plant it was – these photos were like a guaranteed-fail ‘find the difference’ game for me.

It would be much easier if I did that hover-the-cursor thing you guys have done on your page. When you click rapidly from picture to picture, you can see the giant plant vanish.

Thanks! I’m away from home right now. I’ll try it when I get home.

            Your quotation marks are off.

Hmm… It doesn’t seem to work.

Be careful about the single and double apostrophes when cutting and pasting. Also note which two are the same and one is single. (Those are problems I’ve had in the past.)

Ha! I got it to work! Cool!
And thanks for the code. If I can remember that this post is the place that has it, I can use it in the future.

          Ha! I can’t stop watching it. 🙂

Was the fountain grass next to the pokeweed? Hehe…I like the saying pokeweed…I automatically say it with a southern drawl.

I don’t know how you work outside in this heat. I’m hoping to plant some flowers finally in my porch flower box today. And I dread doing even that. I don’t like dirt.
