Hard to Find

The pansies in the front steps flowerpots at my house have been dead and gone for several weeks. I have wanted to plant new flowers in the pots since getting back from Nebraska, but have had a hard time finding what I want. The pots are shaded, so I wanted to plant impatiens. I couldn’t find impatiens anywhere. It was weird. I finally found a few plants at the garden center where a friend from church works. She saw me carrying them and mentioned a disease that is sweeping through the US killing all the impatiens. How did I miss this news? It’s huge!

Anyway, I did get some other plants besides impatiens, just in case. I’m relying on colorful foliage instead of flowers. And really, I won’t see these plants very much. By the time I move back into my house, it will almost be time to plant pansies again.

Coleus, hypoestes, and impatiens.

Inside my house was another hard-to-find thing: someone who repairs plaster. This, I’m sure, is a dying art form. I can’t imagine any new construction uses plaster anymore. Antonio was hired by my repair company to fix my walls before they’re painted. The work he has done so far is amazing. I didn’t take a picture of the finished spots, because he was still working on them. I’m sure I’ll be watching the progress each day now. Look at this giant space Antonio will be putting plaster on:

It was a giant crack. He pulled off the plaster until he came to a solid spot.

Wow! The plaster repair is shocking! He’s not messing around – no ‘toothpaste filling’ for him! I like Antonio.

I’m sad to hear about the toothpaste thing. Impatiens are the only plant I reliably know, so I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t get around to planting any this year?

Holy cow! That is alot of work! Did you watch him do any of it? Did he just chip away at it….or did he have a special instrument for stripping down plaster.

Your house is going to look so awesome when it’s all finished!! I can’t wait to see the finished product.

(and hehe….that red plant you planted….I have one of those in my flowerbox right now too…..does that make me a gardener?)

Antonio is surely one of a kind! While Antonio is repairing your plaster walls, my husband and sons are tearing out a whole room of plaster from 1915. They are tearing out ceiling, walls and everything down to the studs so we can sheetrock and remodel it into an office. Casey and I are chillin’ at the beach while they work:) My husband called last night … ceiling down, lots of debris, and their masks were almost black! Yuk!
