Marylandizing

Happy Birthday, Beth! Woo hoo! A birthday on a Wednesday! That’s like having a weekend in the middle of the week!

I decided it was time for me to switch my Hawaiian drivers license back to Maryland. I got to the MVA by 10:30. There are machines that give you a number. I got one right away. It was number G56. They were serving number G21. I got in line at the information booth just to check if all my papers were in order. They weren’t. You need two things that have your Maryland address on them, not just one. Dang.

I went back to my apartment and got what I needed. When I came back, I went back to the number machine right away. Number G72. They were serving G45. Ack! The information booth guy had kept my previous number!

I even had my birth certificate, if I had needed it. I didn't.

I sat down at 11:30. It had taken about an hour to go about 20 numbers, so I was in for an hour and a half wait. I mostly read. I did have an interesting conversation with a guy who sat down next to me. He told me his wife had died and that he was 76 and that he wanted to remarry, but that he had no interest in marrying an “old woman”. He wanted a young one – in her fifties.

I did successfully get my Maryland license. I am officially a re-Marylander.

I like all the blue on it.

    Welcome back, Marylander!

An hour and a half? Yikes! Good thing you brought a book. Although, I guess if you got a license here, you might have a 3-4 day wait. (Our little DMV office is only open Mondays and Thursdays.)

    Was anyone surly?

Only the first guy I talked with was surly. I think it must be difficult to work at the information desk and constantly be telling people they didn’t bring the right documentation, or telling them they will be waiting for an hour and a half.

Coulda’ been worse, I guess…the old guy coulda’ asked you to double date some day. 😉 Congrats on surviving the Merlin way a’ doin’ things, “Hon”!
