Quick and Costly

I stayed at school longer than usual chit-chatting with a co-worker. By the time I left, I knew my usual route around the west and north side of the beltway would be heavy with traffic. Checking the traffic report, I found out that there was an accident that had my entire route jammed with cars.

I decided to take my alternate route. It leads me around the south and east side of Baltimore. It’s almost always faster, but at a price: I must go through the toll tunnel. It costs $4. Yesterday was totally worth it. Instead of what would probably be an hour and a half trip home, I got home in forty minutes. Woo hoo!

On the map below, the red route is my usual route. The blue is the toll route I took yesterday. Going through the middle of town is not an option. It doesn’t save any time, and it’s full of traffic and stop lights and twists and turns. Ugh. Hard on my car AND on my blood pressure.

Thank you for the map! I like being able to see where you drive, but it must be difficult making your way through all that color.

You should buy a boat and take that river that runs from your house to school.

“Oh, Ye’ll take the red road and I’ll take the blue road,
    And I’ll be in Balt’mor afore ye…”(/em>

    (I got nottin’)

I liked the map, too. Having been to Baltimore a “couple” times….it is helpful….When you just drive in a car with someone while you are visiting them, you don’t have ANY idea where you are!! <3 Aunt Bev 🙂 P.S. Peggy, I love your song!! 🙂

P.S. And your Grandpa Royuk would always say…”Variety Is The Spice Of Life” 🙂

It hurts my soul to think of you going around the beltway that far each day. I totally understand not wanting to pay the toll though. I don’t think I could do it, honestly.

I keep asking long-time commuters if they get used to it. I haven’t yet. The trip in the morning is easy, but that rush-hour return…. ugh.
