Morning Gus

When I wake up in the morning, Gus is often outside my bedroom door meowing for my attention. After I put on my robe and slippers, I head out to the hallway, where he proceeds to rub his head all over my slippers and twist around on the floor.

What he really wants is what comes next: I kneel down on the floor and give him a lot of petting and massaging. He LOVES it. After a few minutes, our morning ritual is complete, and we both head to the bathroom, where I get ready and he drinks a little water and sometimes attacks my ankles. I’m trying to stop him from doing the ankle thing. I don’t like it.

Wait – you mean Gus is banished from your bedroom?! I’m surprised there is no midnight yowling of despair keeping you awake as a result. (Or maybe there is and you;re just a heavy sleeper?) Glad he is so forgiving every morning. “Good boy, Gus! Now quit going for Brad’s ankles, will ya’?”

Awwww…… full body skritches for Gus! That is so adorable. (And creepy, with the lack of fur, but still adorable.)

I TOO AM SURPRISED YOU DON’T SLEEP TOGETHER! RAMIUS WOULD NEVER BE QUIET OUTSIDE A BEDROOM!

Yea, what gives….why can’t he come in your room? (NR)

Hehe… (NR: not rhetorical. Now there’s an old reference.)

When I first got Gus, I tried to have him sleep with me, but he wouldn’t. I got used to closing my door to keep the nice air conditioning in, and now my door is shut all the time to keep the heat or the cold in. That keeps Gus out. It’s okay though. He sleeps in luxury on the couch in his own blankets and (during cold nights) with his own space heater.

My kitty used to do the ankle thing also. I kept a spray bottle of water around. A few squirts of water when she did it, and the behavior stopped. Just a thought.

I’ll have to try that. I don’t know how he would react to a spray bottle. Usually when something startles him, he doesn’t run, he stays put and investigates. “What’s that water?

“What’s that water? Maybe I’ll sit here and look around. Hmmm… I’m getting wet again. I wonder what that is? Maybe I’ll sniff the ground for clues. …more water? What’s going on? That’s very curious.”
