Impulse Buy

About a month ago, I experienced a time of fevered desire to order things on the internet. I got a few things that made sense, like all three movie versions of “The Miracle Worker” for class, and a blank page journal that might get me to do some painting again, but then I ordered this:

Peacock feathers

Peacock feathers

I have always loved peacock feathers. As a kid, I was especially fascinated with them. They’re so shiny and colorful! As I was browsing amazon one night, I saw them offered in bundles of fifties and hundreds. One hundred peacock feathers with eyes for six bucks, no shipping? How could I NOT order that? Fifty of the smaller feathers with shimmery green coloring for another nine dollars? How could I not add that on?

I feel a little silly now that I have them. I have no idea what I’ll do with them. When they’re bunched together, you can’t even see how pretty they are. I’ve wondered if I could maybe cut the eyes off the feathers and glue them to a table runner or placemat or something. Then at least I could appreciate their iridescent beauty.

I got a peacock feather on a field trip in 1st grade. I kept it for years. So pretty.

We had a pastor us one as an object lesson. If you try to balance one on your palm and look down at your hand, it will fall, but if you keep your eyes up and on the eye, you can do it. There – now it’s a tax write-off.

The internet died and I was typing from Lloyd’s phone. ‘Us’ should be ‘use’.

My grandparents kept a bunch of them in a decorative vase. They were quite stunning.

Can you use some of them for writing?

How about an end of school year gift for your home room kids?
