Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Back to the Future

I have received and accepted a Call to teach in Maui. I’ll be going back to the school I was at for a short while in 2013. The time I spent there was very special to me. I am excited about the ministry that is happening there, and I’m looking forward to being part of it again.

I accepted the week after Easter, but have not publicly announced it yet. Today in church, my pastor is announcing it to the congregation. Now that the congregation will know, I can finally write about it here at Bradaptation.

My preparations have already begun, and there is a LOT more to do. Weekends have been particularly busy. Yesterday I spent most of the day in my basement going through boxes. This kind of sorting has been made so much easier – I can only take a very few things to Maui. The rest must be donated or thrown away.

    Important questions:
    1. When and where is the official “Aloha” party?
    2. What was The Max Decision? (We were only half kidding about flying him out later for you, you know.)

Know that you have been in our prayers all through this process, Brad, and will continue to be. Do call/text/e-mail/come over whenever you think we can be of service so your departure can be as stress-less as possible. We love you and know you will be a great blessing to the students you’ll have in the fall.

      1. I really should schedule that. I’ve been so busy trying to figure out home sale stuff and travel stuff, I feel like I’m always a month or two in the future now.

      2. I’ve started the process to get Gus to go along. It’s a long, complicated, expensive process though. There is no rabies in Hawaii, and they are serious about keeping it that way. If need be (and it probably will need to be), he’ll stay with Denis for a while, or he could stay with my mom.

My home is available for a party. the pool will be open in the next few weeks. Also if you are interested, Baccalaureate is at St. James on Friday May 26th. The last group of 7th graders that we taught are seniors. I am going.

Congratulations! What an exciting time for you. The school in Manui will be b blessed to have you on staff. Hope the packing goes well and that the end of the year activities bring you joy, too.

Whew! You have a busy time ahead of you! I envy that you will get to live like a minimalist. 🙂 The basement looks great!

We are so excited to have you here on Maui! We’ve been praying for you both in prayers at church and during our staff devotions! Today on Maui 4 students from our school are getting baptized during church. Two of them are from my class. I’m so excited for them! We also have confirmation today. Many families are planning to go to the beach and surf/boogie board afterwards!
