Chicken Trials

First of all, I’d like to ask for prayers for my Tennessee dad, Ed. He’s having a heart catheterization today.

My trainer has told me I need to eat more protein. My big problem with that is that I’m lazy. When I come home in the evening, I don’t want to cook anything… I just want to eat. Meat takes so much effort to cook.

I decided to try chicken. Maybe I could cook a bunch of it on the weekend, and just heat and eat it during the week.

But how to prepare it? At the grocery store, I got two spice mixes to try. I cooked the chicken in a frying pan with a little butter, then added the spices.

The spice on the left had a subtle flavor. Maybe I needed to sprinkle more on, but one of the main ingredients is sugar. Maybe not.

The spice on the right had a stronger flavor, which I found tasty, but after putting some in the refrigerator for eating at a later date, I’ve decided not to use it any more. It makes my whole refrigerator smell like garlic. I like garlic as much as the next guy, but smelling it every time I open the fridge… no, thank you.

I guess I’ll keep looking for ways to prepare my chicken…

First of all, I am praying for Ed. The whole family, too, since this can be a very stressful time. Thank you for letting us know!

I am impressed with the chicken experiment. I haven’t cooked bulk chicken like this with spices. I wonder what would happen if it were just cooked in butter and the spices were added when it was re-heated? Would that be enough or would it be kind of strange? This is worth my looking into. Off to buy chicken! (Just kidding. I’m going to work.)

Ohh, thank you for thinking of my dad! We’re all gonna make it, he’s a tough one!
Yes, protein is most important! I make chicken almost everyday! I buy in bulk and “do the chicken dance” cutting it up and weighing out for meals then freeze! 12oz for the two of us. 1lb for the fried chicken friday bag! Mmmm For what i call skillet chicken….I use a little olive oil, add the chicken and just a few seasonings…. pepper, garlic salt, onion powder and sometimes lawrys salt. We like things really done and even some crisp so just cook on med heat with the lid turning the pieces every little bit! If things get too dry, you can add a little water to juice it up again. Oh, and teriyaki sauce and lemon juice make a good splash as well. I suppose you could do all this and save and reheat, adding some water or lemon juice to liven up again. Do it! Annnnd, i do an “oven chicken” just chicken in one of my stones covered for a couple of hours…. with Italian dressing over it some pepper and anything else you would want. Comes out like a turkey on Thanksgiving! Easy! Good luck my protein seeking brother! I’ll show you how to make fried chicken in person…..:)

Did you cover the one on the right before putting it in the frig? Tightly cover? That should keep the garlic smell to nearly undetectable, no?

When I read the title of this post I assumed the content would have something to do with those wild chickens that seem to run loose everywhere out there and some nefarious need they were caught committing. Rather sorry to learn I was mistaken.
