With Bacon?!?

Last night I had Spam for dinner. Spam and toast. The Spam was sliced thin and fried. The toast was buttered. It was good. Very good.

What was really interesting was the fact that this was Spam with bacon. I didn’t see any chunks of bacon in it. Perhaps the bacon is blenderized along with the rest of the meat before it’s poured into the can or something. Whatever the case, this looked like normal Spam.

And the taste? Well, perhaps it was a little smokier, but I didn’t otherwise notice a strong bacon flavor. Maybe if I did a side-by-side taste test or something. But I wasn’t able to eat one whole can of Spam. How would I justify opening two? The waste of good canned meat would be a terrible shame. Maybe I’ll try my experiment at my next party. I could cut it into small pieces and tell everyone it was some gourmet delicacy from Hawaii. If I put a pineapple slice on the plate, I could totally pull it off.

Two great tastes that taste great together.

I don’t know man. I love my bacon, but with Spam?

The last time I had Spam was as a kid when my parents were struggling to feed our family of seven. I liked it then, but only because it wasn’t goulash or pigs in a blanket. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll give it a try on my kids.

Did you put grape jelly on your shopping list?

Spam – the true mystery meat. I still don’t think I’ve ever eaten it, but I still have that can you gave us. Maybe that’ll be tonight’s dinner.

What are the tiny words above ‘Bacon’?

      “With Real Hormel”

      • Lauren

Oh, I didn’t know the Hormel was real.

“highly palatable and easily digested natural food”? Sounds GREAT!

Blenderized? Has Webster approved that word? Try cutting up the SPAM into a pasta salad. Disclaimer: This is NOT my recipe, rather someone I know who has done it.

Oh Brad, my whole impression of you has suddenly deteriorated dramatically. You eat SPAM??!

(So, is it as yummy as you make it sound…?)

I just have one observation: if bacon is often more fat than meat (unless its from Canada, eh?), and SPAM by its nature is probably more fat than meat, what would the intrinsic difference be between SPAM with bacon and SPAM without bacon?

How come I can always turn the italics on but can never turn them off again?? Argh!! Thwarted by technology every time!!
