Bumpy Ride

My trip yesterday was on the less pleasant side of things. I’m normally pretty good about getting seats toward the front of the plane. But this time, I was in the second-to-last row. The airlines charge for front seats now, so I had no other choice but to sit in the back. Ugh. I think the back of the plane amplifies every bump and shimmy the plane makes. Our takeoff was really bumpy. I had moments of terror as we punched through some rain clouds. By the time we reached cruising altitude, my heart was pounding, I was gripping both armrests, and I was almost panting. I’m glad I took a Dramamine before the flight. I did not have to use the barf bag.
This was before we took off.

Our landing in Minneapolis wasn’t as bad, but I was still feeling shaky. I got some chocolate milk and walked around the mall area of the airport. It made me feel a little better.
Much more spacious than my small airplane.

After taking another Dramamine, I went to the gate desk and asked if there was any way possible to move my seat assignment closer to the front of the plane. The woman said all that was left were metal seats. I was confused. Was this a new designation for pay seats? What did she say? Medal? Meddle? I asked if I could have one. She moved me from row 27 to row 10. Whew! And as I walked away, I realized what she said: middle. Ha! Those darrn Minnesooota accents!

The second Dramamine made me groggy for my whole flight from Minnesota to Baltimore. In fact, I stayed groggy until bedtime. And ravenous. I ate from the time I got home until the time I went to bed. Maybe my brush with death on the Lincoln takeoff did that.

Hoo boy, let’s try some day to go together somewhere by air [before we go Somewhere Else … by air?] so we can collectively send an entire plane-load of passengers into a panic over our responses to turbulence, air pockets, and the like. Should be amusing…possible lost Seinfeld episode even…

Glad you’re back in one piece…with or without a kitten in your pocket.

Yikes. I felt woozy just reading that, and I like flying. You are dead-on about the back being worse. It’s like that in a bus, too, because you see all the motion as it happens. Bleh.

You are so good to travel here even though it makes you feel sick. Thanks for being a great son, brother, uncle and friend. 🙂

I’m pretty sure that it’s the leaving me that makes you feel queasy. Or something.

Ugh! There’s nothing worse then feeling like you’re on a bumpy road when there’s no road below you! I feel your panting.

I like to hook arms with the person next to me during take offs & landings….which is pretty tricky when you’re sitting next to someone you don’t know.

Brad….I know why you came to Seward! I deeply appreciated your presence! Sorry about the plane experience on your return trip. It made a good blog! I’ll make it up…..maybe buy you a ride on the ferris wheel at the fair?? 🙂 Love, DAD

Haha! I think I’ll pass on the ferris wheel. Thanks, though.

    Do you like roller coasters?
