My lotus is making slow progress. The rim of the pot has little holes in it, so I can’t fill it to the brim, but it does hold enough water for the lotus.

Yesterday I noticed some weird little bugs in the water. I looked closer, and they looked like they might be mosquito larvae. Yikes! I don’t want a mosquito nursery on my lanai!

I stopped at Home Depot after school yesterday to get some Mosquito Dunks. They are filled with a bacteria that kills the larvae. Goodbye, mosquitos!

I have been curious about those. Do they have a chemical or some kind of plant material that is toxic to mosquitoes?

It’s dormant bacteria. When you put it in the water, the bacteria wakes up. The mosquito larvae eat the bacteria, then they die.
