Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Surprising Myself

I did my taxes last night! It was so surprising. I thought I would maybe just get started or just check to see if I remembered login info, but instead I finished the whole process. Yay, Brad!

I use TurboTax, and I am shocked every year by the difference in my refund when I check one box or another box. The one that gets me every year is the “Religious Employment” question. It tells me to check “non-clergy” if I’m a teacher, but the instruction is wrong. As a commissioned minister, I’m supposed to check “clergy”. The difference between those two designations makes a HUGE difference in total at the end. I knew something was wrong when I was almost finished, and it said I had a giant refund. I went back and fixed it.

And even though I was careful, I will still have fitful sleep tonight because I’m worried the IRS is going to kick down my door in the middle of the night and put a sack over my head and carry me off to Tax Mistakes Prison. Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen…

HAHAHA!! Your last paragraph is HILARIOUS!! Oh, my – I dearly hope you never have to go to Tax Mistakes Prison. 😀

Yay! I am so happy your taxes are done!! Don’t you feel like a weight has been lifted? Now you can enjoy Easter weekend without that particular dread hanging over you. Yay! Yay! Yay!

You are not the only one suffering from that recurrent nightmare, sir. I honestly wish Uncle would just take a percentage off the top every year – no deductions – and leave us the heck alone come 4/15. My blood pressure would undoubtedly be lower.

..and congratulations on a successful tax figuring day. … particularly since you seem to get a refund every year. grrrrrrr
