A Great Day

Yesterday was eighth grade skip day. Having them gone all day disrupts the schedule for the middle school, so the sixth and seventh grades had a special event as well – a trip to the park. We spent the morning there, then came back to school for the last part of the day.

The park time was fun. We made them play one game together – I called it “Forced Family Fun”, remembering that’s what my friend Kim in Baltimore would call their family excursions as their kids got older. Hehe….

The rest of the time is left to them. Some of the highlights yesterday were sledding down a hill on cardboard:

Flying a kite:

And going on a short hike:

What a fun day!

After school, Cheryl from church stopped by my room. She has taught me a lot about plants here on Maui, especially plants that have nuts that can be made into leis. She made a lei for me out of nuts from the campus of school. Then she used her wood-burner to put the school logo on the big nut. It’s amazing and special and I love it!

Good grief – what a fantastic day! I laughed out loud at the cardboard sledding. Is that the closest to snow sledding that some of them have been? That is a great day in the park.

What a thoughtful gift that lei is! A truly great remembrance of your time in Maui and the wonderful people at your church and school. <3
