Ireland Day Nine

Yesterday was a stay-in-Aughrim day. We slept in, then relaxed in the rental house. It was a delightfully sunny morning.

Late in the morning, we headed into town. Aughrim is charming. The downtown area is fun to walk around.

I really liked the covers on the water meters. If I saw one in a junk shop or something, I would buy it.

In the middle of town is is cool old building. It was being used as a garage I think.

A little further down was a lovely lake. We walked around it a little. They sold duck food, but we didn’t get any. Maybe the next time I come to Ireland and stay in Aughrim I’ll do that.

Continuing on, we came to a bowling green. And there was someone bowling on it!

We had heard there was a thrift store in town, so we wanted to go to it. It was fun to see what things a thrift store in Ireland has. Their knick-knacks were especially interesting. Lauren saw some wool sweaters, but resisted getting them. Tara got a picture book called “The Cats of Kilkenny”.

We saw many beautiful and interesting houses and gardens.

Ireland has a lot of butterfly bushes in it. They are growing everywhere – sometimes like weeds. Many people have them in their gardens as well. I love them, so I have loved it. Yesterday, I even saw a butterfly. Nice!

Almost every day we have been driving past a garden center outside of town. Yesterday we finally stopped there. I was so excited! And I was right to be excited. It was a big beautiful place with many plants.

I saw lots of plants I liked. For the memory archive, I’ll record the name of this one – Acer shirasawanum ‘Aureum’. It’s a kind of Full Moon Japanese maple.

We returned home to relax a little more. I decided I should take my chance to drive a car with the steering wheel on the right. I just stayed in the driveway of the house, but it was fun. I had picture proof:

The evening was fun together time and a baked potato dinner and watching our new favorite gameshow from the BBC. It’s called “The Chaser”. We love it.

You were a brave soul to even sit in the driver’s seat and stay in the driveway – I’m certain I would kill someone trying to drive on the “wrong” side somewhere…

…but then I read about a game show you saw called “The Chaser”, which sounds like it might be the origin of a relatively new one here called “The Chase”. Are there former Jeopardy champions pitted against guests in trivia matches for potential big bucks in the end? I love that one myself! And here I thought American had finally invented a TV show on its own too…
