Light Bright

January hasn’t been getting any better. Catching a random glimpse of primroses here and there hasn’t seemed to be enough, so I decided to try light therapy again. I did this many years ago, but stopped because I started using prescriptions to deal with my Seasonal Affective Disorder. After discovering that my symptoms were being exaggerated because my old truck was exhausting into the cab and poisoning me, I got a new truck. Things were better. I stopped the prescriptions.

But this year seems to be particularly hard again. I’ll try the lights in the mornings for a while. They make it hard to see the computer screen and they’re kind of hot, but if they make me feel better and get myself a little more organized during the day, it’s worth it.

The information all says to get at least 2500 lux of light. A lux is one lumen at a distance of one meter. The two light bulbs I’m using are 1490 lumens each, and I’m at less than a meter, so I figure I must be getting the minimum required lux. Plus, maybe I’ll get a nice tan!

Lights Off:
I thought my computer desk was pretty clean until I saw this picture.

Lights On:
The light must go into your eyes to be effective. Peripheral vision counts.

Love the setup! Does it blind you? Do you feel like you’re at your computer while an oncoming semi approaches? HONK! HONK!

I’m not mocking, mind you. On Sunday we had actual sunbeams for about an hour and it was glorious. I miss the sun.

Ha! A semi! Ha! You funny!

And I don’t understand why the disease people came up with an acronym that in & of itself is a downer. “I have SAD,” could make anyone blue. Maybe it would be better to say something like , “I have AGLOW!”
