I went to the bookstore the other day, and the bargain books section had a book about chickens. I have a neighborhood acquaintance who has chickens. He even gave me eggs once. It seemed so cool… three or four chickens living in a coop in the back yard… throw them garden scraps… let them walk around every once in a while. I also saw a pretty cool setup when I visited Knoxville last fall. Mark and Debbie keep chickens. Maybe I could keep chickens!
So I bought the book and read the sections pertaining to keeping and caring for chickens. It’s WAY more work than I thought. They’d never survive my laziness.
The book is illustrated with beautiful watercolor paintings of chickens.
Leo wants to have chickens. And I’ve recently discovered that we can in Montgomery county if they have names and are pets. Will we have to explain to the authorities why we’re eating Henrietta?
The summer before my senior year, we had chickens – 50 of them. Some of them were named. I know we had a Henrietta, and I think we had a Wilma also. After the chickens were moved to their new home in the freezer, they kept their names. I remember the night that mom announced Henrietta was going to be joining us for supper. 😉
That is simultaneously sick and hilarious. 🙂
Ha! I like the idea of having chickens, too, but then I could never, ever, ever eat chicken or eggs again. Sorry, chickens, we will remain distant acquaintances.
Forget the chickens….if it’s eggs you seek, at least get an attractive vessel.
Here’s my suggestion. Wouldn’t this look great walking around your garden? And my research shows their eggs taste just like chicken. It’s a win win!

He also has frogs, remember.
