I Cannot Tell a Lie

I cut down the cherry tree in my back yard. I have given it many years to produce, always threatening to cut it down because I got nothing. Last year, I got six cherries. I was excited, because I thought it was the beginning of many years of sweet success. This year, there were many blooms on the tree, but I did not eat a single cherry. In fact, I only saw one green one earlier in the season, then nothing more. So yesterday I got out my reciprocating saw, and cut apart the cherry tree, limb by limb. I bundled the limbs together, and took them to the dump. It was the end of the cherry tree.

I was going to put a Japanese Maple ‘Sango Kaku’ in that spot, but now I’m having second thoughts. There are hundreds of possibilities for that empty spot. My mind reels! I’m in full-blown plant hunt mode now. Awesome!

BEFORE:
It really dominates the garden landscape.

AFTER:
The actual cutting down hardly took any time at all.

    Funniest title ever!

I’m a little sad you didn’t keep some of the wood to burn in the fire pit, so every time you threw another log on the fire you could have said to the other plants, “See?? See what happens if you displease me??”

You should plant some weed that gets really really big there. Then when someone sees your garden and asks what that plant is, you can say, “Oh, that? That’s just a weed”.

    What….you didn’t use a hatchet?

Of course any tree you choose will look fantastic, but may I throw this into the mix:

    I’m just saying….

What would you recommend I say to my fig bush in the backyard then: loaded with figs all season – yet, only four have ripened and that was over a month ago. Just a bush full of teensy, hard, inedible fruits. Figs need heat and humidity (they are after all Mediterranean) to ripen, I know, but by cracky they’ve gotten both in spades of late, no? AbsoSmurfly ridicuSmurf, if you ask me.
