Top Hat

Happy Birthday, Mom! Woo hoo! You’re awesome! It’s a big one this year, everybody.

I have been obsessed by the thought of having a top hat as my winter hat this year, but there aren’t any places to try them on. Except in New York. This weekend I didn’t have any commitments, so I decided to go. After searching for and finding a couple of places to stop at, I headed up. Denis is always my New York sherpa-guide. He likes visiting his friends. I like having a free place to stay. (Thanks, Denis! Thanks, Denis’ friends!)

I was just going to try on top hats, because they are kind of expensive, and really, would I wear one? Really? The first place I stopped in had two heights of top hats. Both were styled in such a way that they didn’t look like costume hats. The bands had an updated look. They looked like real hats. I tried on the tall one first. It was too big around the headband. It rested loosely on my ears. So I tried on the shorter one. It was a little tight, but it looked great. The sales-girl who was helping me was very persuasive. She practically threatened to beat me up if I didn’t get the hat. I didn’t really have a choice…

So I got it:
I wore it all evening.

You look a little under dressed for that top hat. I demand a picture of the two of you in a coat with a scarf.

I left my scarf in Baltimore. It was warm there. Little did I know it would be freezing in New York.

That is a good sales person. Threatening you with bodily harm and making the sale instead of going to prison? Wow!

Hooray for the hat!!! Hooray for you!! It is very, very cool.

  3. Lauren

And a Happy Birthday to your mom!!!! 😀

  4. Kristi

    Dashing indeed.

Lovvve the top hat! Looks like it belongs on you. And yes, Happy Birthday to me! Aren’t birthdays wonderful?!

      Thanks, Mom.

I always think of you when I’m in New York. I think we experience City visits in the same way. 🙂

I understand this was a Big One, Elaine? So…hope your 39th was very special…ahem…congratulations – and have at least 39 more then, ok?

[The hat looks even spiffier in person, by the way. Hopefully Brad will wear it home for the holidays. I understand he wants to get years of wear out of his investment now….]

What a most excellent adventure, you little dickens you….Charles Dickens that is!

A trip to New York at Christmas time AND a fabulous purchase!! Very nice indeed!

What did you do in the evening & did people stop and admirably stare when you passed by?

Happy Birthday Mrs. Royuk!! I hope you have a very special day!!

  8. Peggy

You are a natural in that hat! I think you were born in the wrong era.

  9. Michele

I wonder what Max will think.

Happy Birthday Mrs. Royuk! If you’re good, maybe Brad will let you try on his hat when he comes to visit for Christmas!
