Furniture Road Trip

A friend of Denis has been living near Ocean City, Maryland. She has recently decided to move to New York, and is downsizing her possessions. In particular, she wanted to get rid of a dining table, a shelf, and a bed. Yesterday, Denis and I drove to Ocean City to help her out.

I had been advised that since it was a Saturday in August, we should leave by 5am. We got a little bit of a late start, and left by 5:30am. The traffic wasn’t bad, and we were in Ocean City having breakfast by 9am.

After breakfast, we walked the boardwalk. There were few people there when we first arrived, but it got more and more crowded as we walked. I knew Michele and her family were in Ocean City, so I texted her to say hi. She texted back and told me they were on the beach. We stopped by and said hi to everyone. It was so fun! Michele’s granddaughter Lila is so big! (and cute!)

It was beautiful out!

After the boardwalk, we went to Denis’ friend’s house. She was very friendly and kind. She helped us get the bookshelf and table loaded into the truck, plus she gave us bubble wrap and a blanket. The bed wouldn’t fit. She said she was using it as a surface for laying out packing stuff anyway. She wants us to come back to get the bed next Saturday. I think we will. It’s nice.

The table is small, but fits perfectly in my dining room. I love the dark wood.

It looks really nice with my church pew.

The bookshelf is old… really old. Denis’ friend said it used to be painted white, but she had it stripped and refinished. Each glass door lifts up like a garage door. It’s also able to be disassembled. Each shelf lifts off, and the glass doors come out. That made it much easier to transport.

It matches the piano perfectly! It will hold piano music. And hats.

Wow – that view is gorgeous! Sunshine and blue sky? Perfect vacation. (Except for the ocean.)

The furniture is beautiful. What will you do with the bed? Replace a current one or finally let Gus have his own?

The bed is full size, and all the current beds are queen. If the mattresses are really nice, I might consider a replacement. Or maybe I’ll set up a bed in the basement. The basement is a great place to be when it’s really hot out because it’s always so cool down there. Or a bed in the dining room? That’s where I put the other new furniture…
