Plants in Pots

I installed another railing post on my porch yesterday, but cut my workday short to have lunch with my pastor, so I don’t think I’ll call it Day Eleven of work on the porch.

When I got back from lunch, I potted the houseplants I got in Nebraska. I’ve taken a while because I’ve been busy with the porch and because I haven’t found the right pots.

Usually, the pots I put plants in are about the room they’re going in, but these three plants are all so unusual, I wanted to make the pot all about the plant.

The variegated haworthia is pale, and under the right circumstances even starts to look white. I tried it in a dark pot, and it looked more green, so I decided to go completely white. It worked – the plant looks more pale with a white pot. Since my upstairs bathroom already has plants in white pots, I know exactly where this will go.

The pilea peperomioides is odd-looking. Its round leaves held far away from the main stem look sort of modern-artish. I decided to go with an artsy look and pot it in a round, featureless black pot. I like the effect. I’m not sure where this one will go. Maybe on my desk at school. There were some side-shoots on this plant that I put in another pot as well. If anybody is interested in a pilea peperomioides, let me know.

The ‘Art Hodes’ begonia was the hardest to pot. It’s a dark green color, but covered with red hairs. At first I got a green pot, but it blended in with the begonia and made a big mush of green. I tried red. It looks great, and as an added bonus, I found a pot that matches other pots I already have in my dining room. Now I have have a spot for the begonia! Woo hoo!

That begonia is creepy. (I can say that because I saw it in person.) Thank you for taking it far away from my state. When it takes over the eastern shore we will all know to flee to safety.

Your other plants, though? Very lovely. 🙂

      I agree with Lauren.

How fun to plant plants in pots!! I love to do that and never have enough pots!!! I could buy several every year!! (I don’t though, $$$) The middle plant Paileo Paeodougreroulis does look interesting! (HA, didn’t want to scroll back up) Looks like a water lily kinda? Nice choice of pots and good for you to put so much thought into the colors and textures!!

Do you by chance still have the Pilea Peperomioides? Thanks,Gail

Hi Gail. I do. The original side shoots are now making side shoots. I get the impression that this plant propagates pretty easily.
