Two Tile Tale

I’ve continued to hunt for new tile for my kitchen floor. I was so excited to find an almost-match for my bathroom tiles, but they are special order, and would take weeks to arrive.

I had also seen an in-stock tile that was the right color, but I wasn’t so sure about the pattern. I decided to go back to the tile store by school to buy a sample of the in-stock tile so I could see it in my kitchen.

The store closes at 3pm, so it’s usually impossible for me to get there, but I have a planning period on Tuesdays. Woo hoo!

I asked the worker there if I could buy a single tile. She said they didn’t do that… but they did loan samples out for free. Awesome! And not only did she give me a sample of the in-stock tile, she also gave me the special-order one that looks like the Home Depot tiles. Super awesome!

I put them both in place, along with the paint color card of the brown I’ll be using on the wall. I knew right away I wanted the stripey one that looks like the Home Depot tiles in my bathroom.

It’s on the right.
It’s on the bottom.

I agree – while they are both good options, the special-order tile will be worth the wait. The texture is almost like bamboo!

I can’t believe that there is a tile store close enough to your school that you were able to zip over and get back. The stars are aligning in your favor. (Isn’t that something people say?)
