Hiking Happiness

I went hiking yesterday with Koryna and Bridger. It was so fun! We went to Iao Valley. I think this is my favorite of all the hiking trails on Maui. It was overcast and breezy, which was great – until it started to rain. We got pretty wet, and the trail got pretty muddy. Still, it was a fun time, and it was amazing and beautiful. Besides, shared adversity is always bonding.

I couldn’t decide which picture to include, so here are all of them:

The Iao Needle
A terrestrial orchid
An ohia tree in bloom
A close-up of the ohia flower
The trail is so woodsy and cool-looking
Another cool trail section
Koryna said this was a reishi mushroom
Another trail shot. It was slippery
Ginger. It smelled like honeysuckle
A cool red fern. Hopefully its growth did not involve the death of a beloved hunting dog.
A stream that we crossed. I thought this pool looked like it should have a fish in it that granted wishes.
Cloudy, cool, and green
The end of the trail with an gnarled old ohia tree. I love it. It might be my favorite tree on the whole island.

Breathtaking! I chuckled at your red fern and wish pond. You’r pretty funny, Mr. Royuk.

It’s perfect that you posted all the pictures – we can feel like we were on the hike with you!
