Familiar

Each Sunday, we sing a Hymn of the Day. It’s the only hymn of the service, so I choose it carefully. It has to be familiar, or at least easy to learn quickly. Yesterday was Transfiguration Sunday, so that’s the section of the hymnal I was browsing.

I settled on “Jesus on the Mountain Peak”. It’s a nice tune, is easy to learn, and as an added bonus, has “Alleluia” in it so we can sing it one last time before Lent.

As I was practicing a little before the service, I happened to glance down at the text and tune info. The music was written by Dr. Beck, my old music theory teacher from college. And the tune’s name? Seward! Ha! How fun!

That’s awesome! We sang that one yesterday, too.

Awwww….. my heart is happy. Good ol’ Dr. Beck. <3

A while back, we sang one by a current Concordia professor, and he named the tune 'Filter'. What's up with that??
